Prehistoric Farm Boats Guide: Launching and Island Travel

Last updated 2026-10-06Unofficial player article

Understand Prehistoric Farm boat types, the documented launch interaction, and the difference between sailing and shovel access.

Boats in Prehistoric Farm carry players between the home base and fossil islands. The documented options are Dinghy, Banks Dory, Console Skiff and Lobster Boat. Their seats, top speed and handling describe different travel choices; a larger boat is not evidence of a particular digging-tool unlock.

The gameplay session repeatedly launches a boat, visits fossil islands and returns home. Watch the separate travel and digging steps when planning your own trip.

Launch for the next collection trip

The keyboard reference uses E for talking to NPCs or launching boats depending on context. Use the boat interaction at the relevant location rather than treating every E interaction as a launch. Exact launch-menu positions are not established here.

Home Island contains the ranch, dock and DNA Lab. Returning there after completing a set connects the boat journey to egg extraction. A trip has a useful purpose when you know which fossil collection you intend to advance.

Compare the documented boat options

Dinghy is the starter rowboat with 12-kn top speed, 88% handling and two seats. Banks Dory is a rowboat with 14 kn, 76% and three seats. Console Skiff is a motorboat with 29 kn, 96% and four seats. Lobster Boat is a motorboat with 37 kn, 73% and six seats.

Speed, handling and seats do not all rise together. Banks Dory has one more seat than Dinghy but lower listed handling; Lobster Boat offers the most seats and speed but less handling than Console Skiff. Choose the dimension relevant to your trip.

Check digging equipment independently

The player in the video reaches Triassic but needs Silver Shovel access to dig there. That example separates arriving from using the site. Exact boat requirements for each island are not established.

Use boat upgrades for the listed costs and reaching fossil islands for the journey checks. Avoid solving a shovel restriction by buying a boat merely because both systems involve the same destination.
