Prehistoric Farm Digging Timing: Release in the Green Zone
Use the Prehistoric Farm digging meter, understand green-zone releases, and distinguish a better find from a guaranteed fossil.
For a better find in Prehistoric Farm, hold the shovel's digging input at a Dig Site and let go when the meter is green. The important action is the release. Holding indefinitely or clicking without watching the meter misses the timing decision.
The gameplay video shows repeated digs on the first fossil islands. Watch the meter and the resulting finds rather than judging timing from the rarity of a single reward.
Watch the meter before letting go
Equip the shovel, use a marked Dig Site and keep the input held while following the meter. On the documented keyboard-and-mouse setup, this is hold Click, then release in green. Hotbar tools can be selected with 1–9. Learn the visible green zone before trying to make each attempt faster.
After each attempt, distinguish the input you made from the item you received. A release outside the intended zone is a timing problem. A coin result after a properly timed dig is not proof that the tool failed.
A better find still has several possible outcomes
Dig Sites can produce fossils, coins or Buried Treasure. The official green-zone instruction says better find; it does not promise a fossil on every attempt. No verified odds establish a guaranteed number of green releases for a particular creature.
That distinction prevents an expensive misunderstanding. Replacing a functioning shovel will not turn the timing instruction into a guarantee. Practice consistent releases first, then consider equipment for its own period access and listed attributes.
Turn timing practice into collection progress
Check whether a fossil result contributes to the creature set you are trying to finish. Cambrian sets require five pieces for a creature. Coins and treasure are separate finds; they do not count as missing fossil pieces.
Use getting fossils for the collection objective and the shovel guide for equipment differences. If the meter feels unfamiliar, stay with the starter site long enough to recognize the release action. The useful check is whether you can deliberately release in green, not whether the last attempt happened to yield a rare item.
