Prehistoric Farm Fossils Guide: Collections and Creature Eggs
Understand Prehistoric Farm fossil collections, Cambrian set requirements, and the DNA Lab exchange that produces creature eggs.
Fossils in Prehistoric Farm are pieces of creature-specific sets. Complete a set and bring it to Dr. Ivy's DNA Lab to obtain that creature's egg. A fossil is therefore useful for its collection relationship, not simply as another item in your inventory.
This gameplay video shows the fossil menu and extraction at the home station. Watch how a ready creature set becomes an egg rather than assuming all collected pieces are interchangeable.
Read collections by creature and period
The collection menu lists 80 total slots across six groups: Cambrian 6, Devonian 8, Triassic 20, Jurassic 20, Cretaceous 20 and Cretaceous Seas 6. These are collection entries, not the number of fossil pieces needed for a single egg.
Cretaceous Seas is a fishing egg collection. Keep it separate from the Dig Site fossil groups when deciding which activity can fill an entry. Seeing a creature in the collection menu does not prove its egg comes from digging.
Finish the set that makes the egg
Each of the six Cambrian creatures requires five fossils. Five mixed pieces belonging to several creatures will not satisfy one creature's requirement. A creature-specific count makes the next collection objective clearer than the inventory's total size.
The broader small-island and big-island rule is five and three fossils respectively, but the island size classification is incomplete. Use the requirement shown for the actual creature instead of assigning a guessed requirement to an unfamiliar island.
Exchange before deciding what is spare
Dr. Ivy's DNA Lab is on Home Island. A completed set is its input, and the creature's egg is its output. Inventory can exceed the extraction threshold, but leftover handling after Get Egg is not established. Check the new count after extracting.
Use completing fossil sets to track a ready creature or getting fossils to review the digging activity. Keeping the egg objective visible helps you avoid selling pieces you still need for the set you intend to finish.
